Of Mexican heritage and Buddhist philosophy, Gabriela Reyes Fuchs is a passionate activist and cinematographer who started as a painter before studying photography and film.
Gabriela’s beloved father, Dr. Anselmo Reyes Gallardo was a Mexican orthopaedic surgeon. A pioneer in the field of orthopaedic damage control and education. Recognised for his humanitarian efforts in saving many people’s lives within the most vulnerable communities across Mexico, Anselmo aged 60, tragically and unexpectedly died from a rapid leukemia.
Curious about afterlife, Gabriela was intuitively led to the laboratory following her father's sudden death. It is in this moment that the artist met with her grief and captured mesmerizing multicoloured nebulae when looking at his ashes through a microscope only days after his passage.
These images represent the moment of revelation and communion beyond death that the artist experienced. The opening for deeper connection and healing that Gabriela now wants to share with us all.
